Tutoring and After School Programs

Tutoring

The Activity Center provides both Individual and Group tutoring.

 

Jr. NBA/WNBA Basketball
The Theo Ratliff Activity Center Recreation Department offers a youth basketball program for boys and girls ages 7 to 15.  It begins with a camp held during the Christmas Holidays.  Participants learn fundamental and basic skills of basketball.  The camp is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 10.  However, all boys and girls age 7 to 15 are eligible to participate in League play. There will be girls and boys teams. Age cut-off date is March 1st of the current season.  Players cannot turn 16 before March 1st and still be eligible to participate.

Deadline for League registration is the last day of camp.  Registration fee for the camp is $15.00.  Camp and League registration combined is $40.00 and League-only is $35.00.  All League participants will receive a T-shirt.  The season begins the first Saturday in January and continues through the last Saturday in February.

Golf Clinic

Golf is being offered to participants on Mondays from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.  Youth are learning the anatomy of a Golf Course and hands on playing of the game.  Mr. Lester Mitchell and Ms. Edmonia Borden are serving as volunteer instructors.

 

Piano Lessons

Piano lessons are now being offered to teach basic piano instruction.  Piano lessons will be provided for youth within the City of Demopolis.  Literature has been placed at all schools within the City of Demopolis to encourage participation.

Youth Computer Lab

 

The computer lab is open to youths Monday through Thursday from 1:00p.m. to 3:00p.m.  The lab offers games and Internet surfing as well as the V-Math program which is carried over from the Demopolis school system.  The V-Math program helps students to maintain their individual math aptitude during summer vacation from school.  The program is conducted by Mrs. Donna Rembert and Ms. Rhonda wallace.
